How Do You Reset Your AC Control Module?

How Do You Reset Your AC Control Module?

If you’ve turned on your air conditioner but still don’t feel any cool air, you may need to reset your thermostat, which is the control module. If your AC control module isn’t working properly, it won’t detect the temperature no matter how much you move the dials.
Thermostats are built to be long-lasting and dependable, but that doesn’t mean they never fail. So if you have done your AC installation in Carrollton, TX, and suspect a problem with your air conditioner, the first thing you should do is reset the thermostat. The steps for resetting your AC Control Module are as follows.

1. Turn Off Your Air Conditioner At The Thermostat

To begin resetting your AC thermostat, turn off the air conditioner. Then, locate the air conditioning unit’s shut-off and ensure that the thermostat is set to “off.”

2. Locate The Circuit Breaker Box

Locate your circuit breaker and the air conditioning unit’s control. Your circuit breaker box may be positioned in your basement if you have one. Otherwise, search the closets and small spaces for the breaker box.

3. Reset The AC Unit’s Circuit Breaker

The products that each circuit regulates should be labeled on your circuit breaker box, so look carefully until you identify your AC unit. Then, turn the AC unit’s circuit breaker to “off” and double-check that it is turned off.

4. Wait For 30 Seconds

It is critical to wait 30 seconds before resetting the circuit breaker. Wait 30 seconds before returning the AC circuit breaker to the “on” position.

5. Turn The AC Thermostat Back On

Now that you’ve reset the thermostat on your air conditioner, it’s time to put it through its paces. First, check that the thermostat is still set to “off,” then slowly turn it back on. Finally, restart your air conditioning unit.

After you’ve reset your thermostat, go over the settings again. In the winter, while your home is occupied, a temperature of 68 degrees (or cooler if you’re sleeping beneath your bed’s blankets) can keep you warm and save you money. In the summer, a temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal. Set the temperature back 10-15 degrees in all seasons when you leave the house.

What Next?

If you haven’t luck resetting the unit, the next item to consider is the control module itself.
The control board may now be fried or only partially functional. If this sounds more like it, you have two options. First, spray contact cleaner where your control module is plugged in. Second, replace the entire control board.

Hopefully, the actions outlined above will remedy any problems you’re having with your air conditioner thermostat. A tripped circuit breaker or other unexpected cutoff causes a large percentage of thermostat problems, and the measures outlined above may be sufficient to resolve them.
